About Me

“That could be funnier.”

Hello, I’m Murmel, a screenwriter and novelist made in Germany specializing in comedy.

Born on October 8, 1973, in Munich’s Schwabing Hospital, I began my creative journey co-writing and hosting the radio show “Klub Ma:d” for Radio Energy with Max Witzigmann. This experience led me to collaborate with talents like Michael “Bully” Herbig, Rick Kavanian, and Christian Tramitz on projects such as “Die Bullyparade” and the film “Der Schuh des Manitu” – the most successful German movie of all time. After four years in Berlin, contributing to shows like the “ProSieben Morningshow” and serving as head writer for “Headnut TV” with Erkan & Stefan, I returned to comedy, co-creating three seasons of “Tramitz & Friends” with Witzigmann and Tramitz. Subsequently, I joined Anke Engelke’s “Ladykracher” from its fifth season. In 2009, I penned the scripts for the ORF real-time sitcom “Die Gipfelzipfler,” followed by the 2010 film “3faltig,” developed with Tramitz and Hermann Bräuer. My literary debut, “Frettsack,” was published by Wilhelm Heyne Verlag in May 2012, with its sequel, “Frettnapf,” released in April 2013. In 2013, I co-wrote the “Tatort” episode “Die Fette Hoppe,” featuring Nora Tschirner and Christian Ulmen in Weimar. The following year, Matthias Schweighöfer adapted my novel “Frettsack” into the film “Vaterfreuden.” The movie was remade in France (“Le Furet”, 2021) and the Netherlands (“Voor elkaar gemaakt”, 2017). I also co-wrote the children’s film “Gespensterjäger – Auf eisiger Spur” with Christian Tramitz, Martin Ritzenhoff, and Tobi Baumann. My portfolio expanded with contributions to “Der Nanny” in 2015. Since “Die Fette Hoppe,” I’ve co-authored eight additional “Tatort” episodes, seven with Andreas Pflüger, who retired from screenwriting in 2019. I solely penned the 10th Weimar “Tatort,” “Der letzte Schrey,” and “Der feine Geist,” which aired in 2021. In 2020, I co-created the Amazon Prime series “Der Beischläfer” with Mike Viebrock, followed by a second season and Amazon Studios Germany’s first feature film, “One Night Off,” adapted with Doron Wisotzky in 2021. In 2022, “Träume sind wie wilde Tiger,” a project I contributed to, premiered.
