Ruhr region hero Bertie (Til Schweiger) has left his racing car career behind, and his relationship with Uschi (Tina Ruland) has also fallen apart. However, the once-proud Manta owner has preserved his love for cars and now runs, without much success, a garage with a go-kart track.
Financial troubles are Bertie's constant companion, but when he can't repay a loan on time, the bank suddenly threatens him with foreclosure. He risks losing his property. So Bertie turns to a risky venture: there's a high prize money for winning the upcoming 90s race competition, which he wants to secure.
He sets about getting his beloved Opel Manta back in shape – even though he only has one month left to soup up his former speedster enough to conquer the Bilster Berg with it. And as if the schedule wasn't tight enough, Uschi suddenly tells him he needs to take care of their son Daniel (Tim Oliver Schultz). Will he follow in his father's footsteps and become a race car driver too? At least his buddy Klausi (Michael Kessler) is once again by Bertie's side.
