Der Treue Roy

mdr 2016

Near Weimar, Roy Weischlitz's body is discovered in the blast furnace slag of a steel mill, where he worked at the tapping station. Detectives Kira Dorn and Lessing quickly determine that he was murdered.

Roy lived with his sister Siegrid, who claims they shared a close relationship. However, the detectives discover that a war raged between the siblings that made the battles of Jena and Auerstedt look like a tea party. Siegrid apparently hated her brother. She blamed him for destroying her chance at happiness with her ex-fiancé Karsten, aka "Flamingo," who lost a leg due to Roy's fault. This tragic event marked the beginning of Karsten's unprecedented downward spiral. Now he lives as an alcoholic wreck in an abandoned gas station.

Since Karsten worked an extra shift at the blast furnace on the night of the murder, he's a potential suspect – as is his friend Frank. Frank is involved with prostitute Irina Kratochvílová, alias Vanessa Fink, who conducts her business from a trailer on the outskirts of town. The detectives discover that Frank and Karsten, seeking revenge against Roy, enlisted Irina to extract money from him...

The investigation is complicated by the detectives' differing views about the domestic future of their small family. Lessing is haunted by the disturbing thought that Kira might want to leave Weimar. Additionally, the detectives must deal with their new colleague Ganser from forensics, who, as their boss Kurt Stich aptly puts it, is "a pain in the ass straight out of the textbook."
